Thorough investigations by Today have revealed that a top army man bearing the rank of a colonel at the Castle, the seat of the presidency, is scheming to shut down young but prolific Osu-based private FM Station, Radio XYZ 93.1 FM.

The colonel [name withheld for now] is allegedly in cahoots with two other lawyers of the Station’s late owner, David Lamptey, to execute his plot with military precision.

He and the two lawyers intended shutting down the station on December 31, 2012 but that could not materialize due to the resistance of some staff of the station.

They allegedly ordered the accountant of the station to distribute improperly and anonymously signed termination letters on the 31st of December, 2012 but majority of the workers rejected the letters.

Sorties by Today revealed that the military officer and his legal accomplices are hell bent on selling the station and splitting the proceeds among themselves.

The paper also stumbled upon information which suggested that the top army officer in question fraudulently acquired ten percent [10%] shares in the company right after the death of the owner.

The army officer is purportedly using the two lawyers [names withheld for now] as fronts to carry out his stealth shut down operation.

Under the rules of the Ghana Armed Forces, no serving military officer is allowed to get involved in any civilian business whatsoever.

The colonel in question has therefore breached a major rule of the Ghana Armed Forces and risks being punished if found out.

According to our sources, the military officer, who worked closely with the late CEO of the radio station was once sacked from the premises by David Lamptey for his persistent interference in the running of the station.

He is believed to have frustrated the General Manager, Tommy Annan Forson, until the latter resigned barely a month ago.

David Lamptey died on December 5 and will be buried in February.

No sooner had the wealthy and renowned business man and philanthropist died than the military officer and his cohorts begun scavenging on and scrambling for the former Osu Klottey MP’s numerous properties including the vibrant radio station which Today learnt will be a year old on January 30, 2013.

Radio XYZ has received rave reviews by major corporate organizations and prominent business and political personalities since it started operations in January 2012.

It has established itself as a trusted source of timely, accurate, unbiased and balanced news and information.

Some watchers of the radio industry have even rated the station above some of its major English-speaking competitors who have been in operations for almost a decade.

The station has within the very short time of its operation come to represent the legacy of its late CEO, David Lamptey, whose daughter and son-in-law, according to our sources, have expressed interest in keeping the place running but are meeting a mountain of resistance from the military officer and his accomplices.

Our investigations revealed that the colonel and his legal cohorts are intent on sidelining David Lamptey’s daughter from keeping the station running despite her readiness to invest in the growth and sustenance of the station.

Again our investigations revealed that the military officer has even gone to the extent of writing to the National Communication Authority demanding that they withdraw the radio station’s frequency.

Today has made strenuous attempts to speak to staff of the radio station as well as the military officer involved but to no avail.
