Banku and Tilapia, slaughtering meat and bissap drinks featured prominently in this week’s tasks in the latest episode of The Challenge season 5 reality TV show that is running on GHOne…
With the determination to succeed, one must never give up your dream, and the Challengers got much inspiration and gingering up for their respective tasks, learning how to defend their business idea with a tour to the premises of KoKo King the leading packaged breakfast provider in Ghana today - meeting with the CEO, Mr Albert Osei, whose key advice to them was for them to hold on to their dreams. “Starting a business is never easy, as family and friends might discourage you,” he elaborated.
Armed with this advice, and many other insights, the teams picked themselves up and went to the drawing board to develop their ideas. The Heroes Team, comprising Grace, Benedicta and Elorm, seeing how the kneaded corn dough staple, banku and its accompanying spicy grilled tilapia fare has become popular, conceived the idea to build a business on the increasing popularity surrounding the grub by creating a specialist tilapia ‘Fish Bar’ that only serves fish delicacies, treating consumers to unique fish dishes with hand pick spices that best suites them.
And to ensure regular and year round supply of the fish, they will also create a Fish Farm, so as not to have to travel around in search of any other, as most of the other tilapia joints do today.
The Champs group - Cecilia, Bernard, Senam and Evelyn, - went for a state-of-the art abattoir in Madina to serve the Madina - Aburi enclave. After some initial research into what their competitors do that is the Accra and Nima abattoirs, the team became even more motivated, as its outcome exposed the unhealthy way of meat packaging in Ghana. They, thus, focused on places that already has a large market for meat, and chose the Madina area.
The Warriors group - Kwaku, David, Eunice and Reginald – on the other hand, had the idea to bottle the popular Bissap drink, which is made from the hibiscus flower with spices that add a bit of zest to it. The Warriors will, however, add other fresh fruits to give their brand, which they will call ‘Bizup’ a variety of tastes and flavours.
The will also develop a solid distribution network that will see the drink in homes, educational institutions, health institutions, restaurants and supermarkets, promoting its health benefits and use distinctive packaging to differentiate it and make it more desirable for everyone.
At the end of this interesting and challenging task, Eunice and Senam, however, faced the eviction axe and had to leave the competition. Getting increasingly more and more exciting, the grand finale is just weeks away, and viewers are encouraged to keep watching and voting for their favourite ‘Challenger’ to emerge the ultimate winner by texting their name to 1751.
