Burma camp put up an amazing display to thump Ridge 43-20 and take top honours in group B as the preliminary round of the 2012 Greater Accra Indomie Community Dunks came to a close on Saturday.

Ridge matched their opponent stroke for stroke in the first quarter at the end of which they only trailed 14-12.

With Emmanuel Grunja, Divine Adzakpo, Theophilus Briku and David providing a huge lift off the bench, Burma camp pulled away in the second period.

Briku hit a pair of three-pointers late in the second as Burma camp headed to the locker room with a commanding 30-17 advantage at the break.

The game progressed in the third and fourth quarter with Burma camp maintaining their strong hold of the game and eventually winning by that huge margin.

In the day’s other game, Cantonments edged out Nima-Maamobi 26-22 to improve to second place in the pool in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the CYCC basketball court at Kawukudi in Accra.

Labadi, playing in their first Community Dunks held off fellow-first timers Adabraka to win 22-20 in an exciting contest while Dansoman run riot over James Town by whipping them 24-11 against a relatively young looking side.

While Dansoman came shot of living up their pre-match hype as the favourite to advance from the group, they did more than enough to ensure finishing top of their group and set up a meeting with Adabraka next week.

The opening encounters have put the team in paces ahead of next weekend’s second round of games at the CYCC basketball court.

Labadi will hope to maintain their momentum when they tackle whipping boys James Town, while Dansoman could seal their passage to the semis with victory over Adabraka.

Nima-Maamobi will come up against Burma camp with Ridge needing to pick themselves up against rivals Cantonments.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the grand-finale on September 1.
