Defending champions Accra Polytechnic and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology have been paired in the proverbial ‘group of death’ in the finals of the 2015 UPAC Basketball Championship.

In a live televised draw on TV3’s FastBreak on Sunday, the reigning GHAPSA champions will clash with hot rivals KNUST as well as Takoradi Polytechnic and Zenith University College in pool B.

Accra Poly are smarting from defending their title in the Polytechnic Games held in Kumasi last week and should be inspired ahead of the hugely anticipated finals of the UPAC championship on April 24-25.

They come up against one of the teams hugely tipped to cause problems for them – Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and clash against with Takoradi Polytechnic and Zenith for the second time this year.

The Accra-based side demolished Takoradi Polytechnic 78-43 to retain the GHAPSA title in Kumasi while the accounted for Zenith to qualify from zone two on April 2.

In pool B, giants-killers Marshalls University College find company in Kumasi Polytechnic, University of Professional Studies and University of Cape Coast.

Group is widely opened with any of the teams in with a realistic chance of progressing into the semi-finals.

The quarter-final stage is now set for what is expected to be an intriguing contest at the centre court of the University of Ghana.

The finals will attract many top dignitaries including Ghana’s new sports minister Dr Mustapha Ahmed, chairman of the Ghana Basketball Association, David Addo-Ashong as well as officials of the National Sports Authority and the University of Ghana.

The 2015 UPAC Basketball Championship is brought to you by Dynamite Energy Drink and supported by Access Bank, EV Oil, Premier Cool, Airtel Ghana and Everpure.

Media partners include TV3, Starr FM, Joy FM, Peace FM, Basketballghana.com and Labaari.com.
