The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has expressed it appreciation to the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) for its sponsorship for the organization of the lectures of the 2009 International Day of the Sports Journalists held last Thursday in Accra.

A statement signed by William Ezah, acting General Secretary of SWAG lauded the perfect collaboration between the Association and GOC over the past years.

It said the success of the celebration cannot be mentioned without the GOC, following the financial support it gave to SWAG in the course of the organization. "We are convinced that SWAG will continue to enjoy a smooth working relationship with GOC in the coming years as well." The statement added. The statement also expressed appreciation to the National Sports Council (NSC) for making available the Media Center at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra, as the venue for the lectures at no cost.

It added that the provision of the venue at no cost lessened the financial burden of the Association in the course of the organization and expressed the hope that the two bodies will continue to collaborate in all areas of sports development and promotion. The statement also thanked veteran journalists Mr Joe Aggrey and Mr Yaw Boadu Ayeboafo, who were the resource persons for their thought provoking deliveries.

"The duo demonstrated their in-depth knowledge in the profession through their presentations". It stated. The statement also thanked all sports journalists from the various media houses for participating in the lectures. SWAG last Thursday celebrated the International Day of the Sports Journalists by organizing a day's lecture on the topics, "The state of sports journalism in Ghana today and the way forward" and "Pitfalls in Sports Journalism" at the Media Center of the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra.
