Aduana Stars Want Kotoko Punished

Ghana top-flight side Aduana Stars have asked football authorities in the country to punish giants Kotoko for boycotting the receipt of medals for the President’s Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors snubbed the ceremony led by the Ghana’s vice president John Dramani Mahama after Friday’s game claiming the referee was unfair.

Kotoko lost out on penalties to league champions Berekum Chelsea after referee Awal Mohammed had asked the Blues to re-take some of their shoot-outs they missed.

This came after the Kotoko goalkeeper Soulama Abdoulaye moved off his line when the kicks were taken which resulted in the decision by the referee. The director of operations of Aduana George Gyau says for disrespecting the vice president of the country, a punishment should be meted out to serve as a deterrent to others.

“It is the opinion of Aduana Stars that Kotoko must be punished for the way they conducted themselves before the vice-president of Ghana,” Gyau said. “How long must we allow such unruly things to go on in Ghana football without the proper measures taken to deter others? “We must bring sanity into our game by ensuring that the laws are equal for everybody.

“The Ghana FA must show backbone and punish them so the smaller teams will not dare repeat what Kotoko had done. “There shouldn’t be a law for the big teams in Ghana and another for the smaller teams in the country.”

Gyau insists the referee was right calling for the retake of the penalty kicks saying the media is seeking to sweep that law under the carpet because it is Kotoko involved. The Aduana star boss cited Article 14 of the Fifa law to buttress his point.

“The media and Kokoto are trying to blame referee when the law on penalty kicks is clear. The goalkeeper moved off his the referee was right to call the decision,” Gyau said. “It seems a lot of people are ignorant of the law or are intentionally ignoring it.

“The media and Kotoko officials have the duty of educating their players and fans about this law.” The Ghana FA will meet on Tuesday to decide on what must be done to Kotoko.
