The Ministry of Youth and Sports has revealed its intention to enter into a public-private partnership for the rehabilitation of the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Accra Sports Stadium has been in deplorable state since its renovation in 2008.
The Stadium has been described as a “death trap” to fans who troop to watch football matches following the cracks and rusty nature of edifice.
Deputy Sports Minister Vincent Oppong Asamoah in answering a question about measures put in place to renovate the arena said his outfit is planning to enter into an agreement with a private company to help refurbish the Stadium having failed to raise a said GH¢12 million needed for the project.
The Ministry of Sports together with the National Sports Authority have failed to raise the amount needed for the work.
According to Mr Asamoah, the Ministry, having signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a private company have submitted a proposal on the public-private partnership to the Public Investment Division of the Ministry of Finance, which had been approved.
