Newly crowned WBO Super Bantamweight Champion, Isaac Dogboe has revealed to Ghanaweb.com, in an exclusive interview that he will be going back to school this September to pursue higher education.

The 23 year old says he is aware the decision will come as a shock to many, considering his new status as a world champion but reveals going back to school at this time was all part of the grand plan when he ventured into boxing, adding he would have no problems combining active boxing with university education.

“I have completed high school and I will be going to University this September. When you start boxing in the beginning that is the difficult part because they can call you anytime to have a fight. And that is why we train all year round so that whenever the call you, you will be ready. But now I am a world champion and we call the shots, now we know when we are going to have a fight and thus how we are going to structure my training and my school.

So it was worth it to take a few years out because when we started this people were skeptical and were like, what if you don’t become a world champion or what if it takes longer for you to become a champion? Does that mean you will wait until you become a world champion before you start going to school? But that is all part of the sacrifice," he added.

Asked which country he is heading to in the pursuit of higher education, Dogboe said “the United States of America or the United Kingdom.”

He also revealed that he plans on studying sociology for his first degree.

Last month, Isaac Dogboe became Ghana's youngest ever boxing champion after knocking out Jessie Magdaleno in Philadelphia on April 29, making him the new WBO super bantamweight/junior featherweight titleholder.

In that fight, Dogboe recovered well from a first-round knockdown to produce an outstanding performance to beat the title holder in front of a very hostile crowd.

Meanwhile, Dogboe who was recently crowned Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Sports Personality of the Year, says he expects to be back in the ring to defend his world Boxing Organisation (WBO) super bantamweight title in two months’ time against a yet-to-be-named opponent and was looking forward to dominating the division in a bid to help restore Ghana’s glory in international boxing.

After being honoured with the SWAG topmost award last Friday, the 23-year old boxer said he hopes to be busy after being signed on by America’s premier boxing promotions, Top Tank, owned by Bob Arum.
