Wembley Sports Complex (WSC), a privately owned Ghanaian Company with marked experience in the construction and management of artificial football pitches in Ghana is set to construct artificial football pitches in all the 270 constituencies in the country.
The project is expected to free the country from its over-reliance on grass pitches due to inconsistent rainfall patterns.
According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Wembley Sports Construction Limited, Robert Tetteh Coleman, the One Constituency One Astro Turf has nothing to do with politics but has everything to do with a concept that President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo’s was runing with during his campaign and "we also decided to run alongside that particular concept.”
He also revealed his firm has rolled out 16 artificial football parks across the country to help develop sporting talents within the communities and also curb challenges with the non-availability of playgrounds within Zongos and inner cities.
Speaking in an interview with Kwame Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's ‘Kokrokoo’, Mr. Coleman emphatically stated that his outfit will spearhead the astronomical increase in sports infrastructure, particularly safer surface for footballers (Artificial Football Park) by using world class technology to construct Astro Turf parks across the country.
He has also declared zero “Sakora Parks’’, a term used to describe undeveloped football and other recreational parks in the country.
Such a move, he said, was in line with President Akufo-Addo’s agenda of developing Zongos and Inner Cities.
“So far we have constructed about 16 parks across the country and still counting…it is a vision in progress and we believe it is high time every constituency in the country gets an Astro Turf… Sakora Park is a thing of the past and that is what we want to navigate or walk away from,” he said.
He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo and Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyapong, CEO of Zoomlion for their immerse contribution towards Astro Turf project in the country.
