Rugby will return to the Olympic Games stage for the first time in 92 years when the world’s top men’s and women’s rugby sevens teams compete at Rio 2016, and World Rugby is providing its Unions and Regional Associations with a suite of materials to use and share ahead of Rugby’s participation on sport’s biggest stage.

Information Deck: This is Rugby Sevens

As a new sport in an Olympic context, rugby sevens may not be familiar to some sports media. World Rugby has produced the ‘This is Rugby Sevens’ educational deck in four languages. This is also available via the Ghana Rugby Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/Rugbygh/

Social Media

As per recent IOC guidelines, World Rugby encourages all to mention the hashtag #Rugby alongside #Olympics or #Rio2016 during the Games, and interact and engage with its channels.

In the build-up to the Games World Rugby would also encourage the media to include the following ticketing link in any sevens posts rug.by/bWIHef and #Rugby. The IOC are also encouraging us to use #YOGtoRio if there’s anything of interest around any Youth Olympic Games players to demonstrate the Olympic pathway.

During the Olympic Games, World Rugby will be providing comprehensive coverage of Rugby’s return to the Games on all of its official social media channels, including live blog, latest results, photos, illustrations and infographics, all in English, French, Spanish and Japanese across:

Complementing the Olympic coverage on www.olympic.org and www.Rio2016.com, World Rugby’s own website will feature all the latest rugby-specific news and views at http://www.worldrugby.org/olympics and aggregate the best social and visual content via a live blog available in multiple languages on all six match days.

Getty Images is World Rugby’s official photographic agency at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and will be covering every session from the men’s and women’s competitions. The images can be accessed via the World Rugby Media Manager page on gettyimages.com.

Media Q&A

World Rugby has also compiled an Q&A for media FAQs regarding rugby in the Olympics, which will be available in the next seven days. This will include information on the benefits of inclusion, the anti-doping programme and the rugby legacy programme in Rio.
