Ghana speedy winger Opoku Agyemang has been ruled out of June's World Cup in South Africa after suffering a cruciate ligament injury.

The 20-year, who plays for Qatari side Al Sadd, has been ruled out of action for six months which means he won't be available when the tournament starts in June.

Agyemang suffered the injury while playing for his club in their Asian Champions League 3-0 thrashing as the hands of Saudi giants Al Hilal on Wednesday.

He was taken off in the 85th minute of the home game and All Sadd doctors have now confirmed that he will undergo surgery next week.

"He will have one week for softening and then will have surgery here in Qatar," Al Sadd physiotherapist Hussain Almanai said.

The news is a severe blow to the Black Stars as the youngster was one of the players coach Milovan Rajevac was keen on unleash on their group opponents at the World Cup.

It is also a massive setback for Agyemang who was seeking to make his debut in the global tournament and also put himself on the European market.

He is one of the players who excelled at the recent Africa Cup of Nations as he speed on the wings gave defenders sleepless nights.

Arsenal defender Emmanuel Eboue was sent for his crude tackles of the youngster in Ghana's game against Ivory Coast.

The news leaves coach Milovan Rajevac scratching his head for answers as he seek to build a formidable side for the tournament in South Africa which starts in four months.
