Former Asante Kotoko head coach Hans Dieter Schmidt has warned the club about a purported move to sign Aduana Stars striker Bernard Don Bortey.
The German trainer believes the former Hearts of Oak winger has pass his prime and has very little to offer.
Schmidt, who guided Kotoko to the final of the 2004 Caf Confederation Cup, told Sunyani-based Dinpa FM: Am not in the position to advice the Kotoko management of which player they should sign for the club but I think they have a team that can easily win the league next year without that him (Don Bortey) because there is little he can offer at his age.
He (Don Bortey) was a very skilful player during my times in Ghana but that is almost 8 years now and I strongly believe he is too old for them.
He added that: Kotoko should try and sign very few young players who can bring change into the team because you look at Germany and Michael Ballack has been forced to retire today for younger ones and that is current football.
The management of Asante Kotoko were recently on collision regarding a move to sign the former Heart Of Oak marksman but the player is still believed to be on Kotokos radar.
