ANDRE VILLAS-BOAS hailed his "superhuman" players after Fulham hit the bar with TWO penalties to spare Chelsea's blushes.
AVB's men had to play almost 75 minutes with 10 men after Alex was sent off for conceding a second-half penalty. They took the tie to a shootout after Pajtim Kasami hit the bar with that kick. And given Chelsea had lost seven of their previous eight shootouts ďż˝ including the 2008 Champions League final ďż˝ Villas-Boas was fearing the worst.
He said: "It was a superhuman effort. We had 10 men for over 70 minutes and still created the most and the best opportunities.
"The players made me aware of our shootout record and also told me they go out of the Carling Cup when they go down to 10 men. So in one stroke we've got rid of two bad records."
The shootout was decided when Fulham's 10.6million new buy Bryan Ruiz hit the bar and saw the ball bounce on the line. Boss Martin Jol said: "I knew it hadn't gone in."
