Maxwell Konadu is looking forward to competing on a regular basis with former internationals who take up coaching in the domestic leagues and says this can only go to help improve the game in Ghana.

The Asante Kotoko coach has said that former Ghanaian players interested in returning to the game must be convinced to spend more time learning the ropes of the job.

Konadu, an ex-international believes the league’s quality will improve if more former internationals take up coaching jobs in the top-flight.

The Ghanaian top-flight league has a considerable number of former players leading teams with the top-four of the Glo Premier League table dominated by Konadu and two other former internationals, AshantiGold’s Yaw Acheampong and Hearts of Oak’s C.K. Akunnor.

“It’s good my colleagues are coming back to the game and I am very happy. Because what we have seen out there, if we sit back at home to let it just go like that then I don’t think we are doing any good to Ghana soccer,” Maxwell Konadu, who is attempting to lead AsanteKotoko to their 22nd league title said.

Konadu who joined Kotoko from Wa All Stars where he was an assistant says the game will benefit from the knowledge of his colleagues who have spent considerable time abroad since they can help refine local talent to improve the league.

“I think we’ve leant a lot out there and have to give it back to society. Even though we are working and we are being paid for what we are doing right now, I think a lot of this new generation would benefit from some of us.”

But the Kotoko coach was quick to warn that successful playing careers do not automatically translate into coaching.

“And I have to make this very clear. Not all very good footballers can become very, very good coaches. You just have to learn and learn very, very hard,” he said.
