President John says over reliance on Asamoah Gyan ahead of the 2014 World Cup finals is worrying. Ghana is drawn in a tough group alongside Germany, Portugal and USA.
The Black Stars must manage its way through the tough Group G in order to reach its desired target of at least a semi final berth.
But Ghanas President John Mahama wants the teams defence which has been rocked with injuries solidified while looking for a potent striker to complement the efforts of Asamoah Gyan before the tournament commences next year in Brazil.
I think that what we should be working on is to strengthen our defence because since John Mensah left and Isaac Vorsah got injured we are yet to really tighten our defence and I think that the handlers should look at that, he said.
I also feel that we need an additional striker to complement the effort of Asamoah Gyan.
Ghana is lacking in strikers. We produce too many midfielders; we need strikers or attacking midfielders who can score aside Gyan.
Of course Essien, Muntari and co can do the attacking but we need natural strikers badly. I think between now and June we have the opportunity to work on creating a good team.
Ghanas scoring rate has improved immensely under coach Akwasi Appiah with the injected pace and positioning of Abdul Majeed Waris. Appiah also have the the option of playing Kevin-Prince Boateng in such an advanced role as he is also noted for scoring goals.
