Expectations were high for the Black Stars to do well this year in Brazil after reaching the quarter-finals in South Africa four years ago.
I have let down Ghanaians and the President, but there were circumstances beyond our control in camp, Afriyie-Ankrah said.
Ghanas campaign at the Brazil 2014 World Cup was marred with appearance fees row with some of the senior players at the forefront.
Sulley Muntari and Kevin Prince-Boateng were suspended for various acts of misconduct.
