Ghana are a shade ahead of Algeria in terms of statistics as both teams set up a fourth meeting at the Nations Cup with a second Group C clash in Mongomo, Equatorial Guinea on Friday.
The Black Stars have won a match more than the North Africans in their tenth meeting in all competitions, with Ghana needing a win to give their campaign a chance following an open day loss to Senegal on Monday.
Ghana have won four of their previous meetings, with Algeria winning three and two ending in a draw.
While Ghana walk into Fridays match with pedigree, Algeria, Africas best ranked team globally are considered favourites after an impressive run at the FIFA 2014 World Cup in Brazil, last summer plus a smooth performance during the qualifiers of the tournament.
In-between them have been two FIFA World Cup qualifiers in 1994 where Algeria toppled the Black Stars, four encounters at the Africa Cup of Nations level and friendly matches.
The last time both sides met was in 2011 which ended in a one-all draw. A total of 21 goals have been scored in-between both teams with Ghana finding the back of the net 11 times, one more than Algeria.
While Algeria rallied to beat South Africa 3-1 in their Group C opener on Monday, Ghana relinquished an early lead from the spot, converted by Andre Ayew to lose 1-2 to the Taranga Lions of Senegal
