Premier League Champions, Ashgold, claimed their second trophy of the season, beating Asante Kotoko 3-1 in their Otumfuo Cup clash at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi, on Sunday.
The Miners, displaying tactical discipline, drew first blood in the 16th minute, courtesy Joshua Tijani, who connected home an Osei Baffour free kick.
Ashgold increased the goal tally six minutes later, and it was Shafiu Mumuni who was on target, taking advantage of a goalmouth scramble to lob the ball over advancing Kotoko goalie, Joe Addo.
Kotoko came into the second half a transformed side, and in the course of the game, snatched a consolation goal in the 82nd minute through Obed Owusu.
Their hopes of coming back into the game was short-lived, as Ashgold's Eric Opoku, who received the trophy, fetched the third goal in the 87th minute, to send the playing body into a frenzy.
The match climaxed Kotoko's 80th anniversary.
