The Ghana international has wrapped up a switch to the United States-based club.
Major League Soccer outfit New York Red Bulls have completed the acquisition of Ghana defender Gideon Baah, the club have announced.
The 24-year-old joins the American side from Finish club HJK Helsinki, having spent two years with the latter.
“Gideon has all the characteristics we’re looking for in a central defender,” sporting director Ali Curtis told the club’s official website.
“He fits into our style of play extremely well and we are anxious to have him get started with our club.”
Meanwhile, Baah is over the moon to have finalised his switch and reveals Red Bulls’ Ghanaian attacker Lloyd Sam played an instrumental role in the final choice.
“I had the opportunity to watch them [Red Bulls] all season last year,” the defender said. “I have a basic idea of what the club is and I think it’s a good club. I’m very happy to join them.
“I know it’s a big club, a big organisation with lots of affiliates all over the world. I could see that they play some really good football and they have some really good players – like Lloyd Sam who’s also from Ghana.
“He played an integral part. He told me good stuff about the club. It’s a big part of the reason why I’m here, so I thank him for that. Lloyd is a good guy and I’ve been talking to him ever since we met in the national camp.”
Baah joined Finish side Honka FC from local giants Asante Kotoko in 2013, before crossing over to HJK the following year after a string of fine performances.
He made his international debut in a 1-1 friendly stalemate with Canada last October.
