The GFA spokesman lifts the lid on some benchmarks by which a new Black Stars coach will be appointed.

Ghana coach Avram Grant will vacate his post by end of the month and according to Ghana Football Association communications director Ibrahim Sannie Daara, talks are underway to find a worthy successor.

Grant began work as coach of the Black Stars in December 2014 but following a string of poor results lately - including a disappointing fourth-place finish at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon - the coach and the GFA have agreed to mutually part ways.

"We have not yet taken a decision but already, talks are underway for us to decide on who will be our next coach," Sannie told Starr FM.

“We want a coach who can catapult the team to greater heights, someone with a proven record of transforming teams and talents to make them shine when there is no hope.

“These are some of the criteria we will be looking at - the coach's competence, his ability to work in Africa and above all a coach who will come and stay here.

‘We will look at these things before we take a decision on who becomes our next coach."

Ghana's poor start to the 2018 Fifa World Cup third round qualifying leaves them five points behind group leaders Egypt after matchday two.

The Black Stars also suffered a 1-0 defeat to Burkina Faso in the third-place playoff at the Afcon, having earlier lost 2-0 to Cameroon in the semi-finals.

Morocco coach Herve Renard, Uganda boss Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic and former Cameroon assistant coach Ibrahim Tanko have been some of the early names tipped to replace Grant.
