Black Stars coach, James Kwesi Appiah, has said that the team is not only about the Ayew’s and that in his bid to build a strong team for the future “there are thousands of Ghanaian players I can select from.”
Coach Appiah announced a 26-man squad for the must-win encounter against the Red Devils in Kampala without the experienced duo.
In an interview with the GNA Sports on Friday, he explained that his exclusion of Dede Ayew and Jordan Ayew from the squad to face Uganda in a FIFA World Cup was qualifier in Kampala on October 7 was to give opportunities to other equally good players.
The coach invited seven debutants, including two home-based players to augment his squad, as Ghana faces a herculean task of qualifying to the Mundial for the fourth consecutive time.
According to him, he wants to build a formidable team for the future; hence the dropping of the two England based players.
He said “we know the calibre of Dede and Jordan Ayew already and if we want to build a team for the future, then we need to give other players the chance to also prove themselves.”
When asked whether the duo’s exclusion from the squad was a result of dip in form, he said “no, they are playing well.”
The coach came under a barrage of criticisms from a section of the Ghanaian populace over his decision to drop the duo because of a feud between Appiah and the father of the Ayew’s over captaincy issues in 1992.
He however debunked the rumours saying, “this has nothing to do with that because there’s no issue.”
Ghana lies third in Group E with five points behind Egypt 9 and Uganda 7, with Congo lying at the bottom with 1 point after four matches played.

Excuse me......what are we saying. If you think you are better than the coach please quit your job and send your CV to the GFA for appointment. We are just trying to tarnish the reputation of the Coach. At least the team united against the Congolese in Brazzaville and put five goals behind them. This alone should tell those insulting the coach that there is more to the happenings in Black Stars than what we are seeing. No single group of individuals own the National Team and WE ARE TIRED WITH THIS CHILDISH ATTITUDE of some of our folks. Has anyone gone through the final 12 man list of rugby players representing Ghana? There are more Northerners in that team than any other group of individuals from the other regions in Ghana yet no one has gone ahead to hold any press conference. Again if you think you are better than the Coach, get off behind your screens, quit your job and take the job. We are tired of all these.......
This so called coach is so incompetent is not a joke. How can you be talking like this. You can drop anyone from the team but you have to at least be wise about it. I'm surprised they use tax payers money to pay someone as incompetent as this guy. No wonder country man songo is always telling us that the coach is not good. He is tactically bankrupt and lack ideas as to reading a game. This one too be coach
fire burn anyone who criticize the coach
Go away, all critics, Jordan Ayew has been given the chance time and time again to proof himself, what has he achieved for himself? There are equally good players. We'll give them the chance.
Neither asamoah gyan
My brother, all that we want is result.even if you drop all the old players and bring in a new set and you achieve resuls we don't care. Don't listen to Ghanaians,do whatever that you can do to bring results.Nobody is above Ghana and remember that these same people who are questioning why you drop the Ayews are the same who will call for your sack should you fail. ALL THAT GHANAIANS ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO IS RESULTS.
Ghana is bigger than just a family. Senior players like Essien, Agyemang Badu, Wakaso, Majeed Warris just to mention a few were axed from the national team and nobody said anything. Why do you think Ayews are very different from others? They have done their part but now times have changed and new huge talents have emerged. Therefore, they must also be given the opportunity to showcase their talents to serve their nation. let's all encourage coach Appiah to build a formidable team for the future.
This is one of the weakest and unintelligent response from a coach of his calibre. Your instinct does not even tickle to have for seen that, dropping the brothers at the squad would call for questions and public outcry for witch hunt. Learn from your senior coaches around the world. This is petty and pity.
