Going by performance of this season, as well as records of the previous meetings, Serena Williams looks the favourite to overcom big sister, Venus as they go head-to-head in the quarter-finals of the US Open tonight.
Barely an hour after Venus had dispatched Anett Kontaveit 6-2, 6-1 in the fourth round match, Serena Williams ensured she booked that rare date with her sister with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Madison Keys last Sunday.
In 26 career meetings between the sisters, Serena holds a 15-11 record. Venus won the first encounter at the 1998 Australian Open in straight sets, while Serena took the most recent match, in the fourth round at Wimbledon, also in straight sets.
Serena has won seven of the past eight matches.
The sisters will be playing each other for the 14th time at a major Grand Slam and the younger sister will have to find a way to deal with her big sister as she pursues the calendar-year Grand Slam also dubbed the Serena Slam.
"She's playing great," Serena said of Venus in her on-court interview. "I barely had time to get ready for my match because she won so fast. I have to be ready for that.
"I don't feel any pressure," Serena said. "I wanted that Serena Slam. Winning four in a row at Wimbledon was amazing.
