Mfantsipim JHS Win Central Region Milo Junior BasketBall

Mfantsipim Junior High School produced a five-star performance to lift the 2012 Central Region Milo Junior Ball Championship after thrashing sworn rivals and defending champions Catholic Jubilee 20-12 in the finals on Friday. The eight-hour one-day competition was characterized by all the ingredient in the game: suspense, revenge, enactment of rivalry and asserting of dominance. It was a nervy opening for Jubilee in their opening encounter as George Ekem Ferguson took the game to them. The tactics of the coach to deploy all out offensive and defensive game with a high work rate from his young charges was becoming too much of an antics for them to contain. But the usual suspects, Captain Daniel Owusu and Issac Owusu, turned the game around in the second half with some brave display that saw them edge their opponent by a narrow 31-30 scoreline to give their title defence a breather. They found William De-Fraft Junior High too easy to handle as they beat them at the quarter-final stage before accounting for Philip Quarcoo in a close contest in the semi-finals. It was sweet revenge for Mfantsipim who lost their second group game against the defending champions; fighting back strongly to win the epic finals in an enthralling fashion with an amazing attitude that surprised the thousands of fans at the Jubilee basketball court at Victoria Park in Cape Coast. But Catholic Jubilee will take delight in the fact that their second-placing has earned them a place at the grand-finale in Accra on April 13. Last years finalist, Anglican Junior High could only manage a third place finish after beating George Ekem Ferguson 31-23. In the Choreography competition, Wesley Girls dazzled their way to the title with some swash buckling performance while St Monicas and William De-Graft came second and third respectively. The Rap competition also saw young and enterprising Moses Arthur of George Ekem Ferguson showcasing huge potential to clinch glory in a great fashion, fending off the competition from the likes of St Monicas, Philip Quarcoo, Catholic Jubilee and Wesley Girls. The final regional qualifiers will take place in the Greater Accra region on Saturday, March 17, where over twenty schools have confirmed their participation.
