AIRTEL Boss To Speak At Sports Expo 2012

The Managing Director of one of the communication giants AIRTEL GHANA Limited, Mr. Philip Sowah will be one of the speakers at the 4th Accra Biennial Sports Expo, 2012 to be held in Accra from Tuesday, 15th to Friday, 18th May 2012. Mr. Sowah�s topic at the four-day event, which is being organized by RICS Consult Limited in collaboration with a number of institutions, will be: �USAGE OF MOBILE PHONE APPLICATIONS IN PROMOTING SPORTS�. Under the theme; �Promoting Africa�s Talents Globally: Role of Sports Business�, the event will focus on ways of leveraging all facets of sports business principles and practices to develop and globally promote Africa�s sports talents. The Sports Expo Conference, which is to assemble more than 150 participants from the various national Olympic Committees, District/Regional and National Sports Councils, District/Regional and National Sports Associations and Federations, District/Municipal/Metropolitan Assemblies and the private sectors, will also seek to reach consensus on a designed roadmap to assist African Nations, Governments, Sports policy makers, administrators and performers to rethink sports as an emerging industry with all its attendant benefits to grow African economies. Mr. Philip Sowah, whose professional life spans more than 25 years in several industries during which he has worked in senior management positions in the telecommunications, information technology and management consulting with BIG 5 and Fortune 500 companies in the United States of America and across Africa, is a graduate of Grinnell College and Washington University all in the US. In 2005, Mr. Sowah took up the position of Chief Officer of ONETOUCH (now VODAFONE), where he championed its aggressive expansion from 160,000 to 1.3 million subscribers, and in 2009 as pioneer Managing Director of Airtel Ghana (formerly ZAIN Ghana), Mr. Sowah worked to build the company�s brand earning string of successes including CIMG Telecoms Company of 2009, 7th place in the Ghana�s Most Respected Company 2009, 6th place as CEO of the Year, 2009 while Zain�s flagship TV programme; �TOUCHING LIVES� also won the CIMG TV Programme of the Year, 2009. With the transition of the company from Zain to AIRTEL Ghana, Philip has again won the CIMG Telecom Company of the Year, 2010 and the Telecom CEO of the Year, 2011 Award organized by Mobile World, thus attesting to his strong leadership capabilities.
