AFAG Begins Gargantuan Forum

The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), a pressure group made up of different political party members, will from today 20th March, 2012 begin a series of public fora dubbed The Gargantuan Forum across the country. A statement released in Accra and signed by Arnold Boateng, General Secretary of AFAG, noted that the forum would start from Koforidua in the Eastern Region from Tuesday March 20, at 3:30pm at the Appenteng Hall. It said the platform, from Koforidua, would move to all other regions in the country. The essence of these public interactions is to fulfill AFAGs avowed commitment to holding public officeholders accountable as well as being a bridge between the ordinary Ghanaian and the government, the statement explained. According to the release, the platform would discuss topical issues and holistically look at the payment of judgment debts made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC). It reiterated that the forum would give the ordinary Ghanaian an opportunity to assess the NDC government in his/her own perspective. The release said AFAG, based on the discourse and resolve of the people, would collect signatures which would be used as one of its basis to determine its next course of action. AFAG is by this statement inviting all Ghanaians, particularly those who cherish the tenets of transparent and accountable governance. The release concluded that in a democracy where public officeholders hold office in trust of the people, the people at any given occasion had the right to know how that mandate had been or was being exercised.
