Ghana was hit by two devastating nationwide blackouts on Wednesday evening.
The first outage occurred some minutes after 7pm and lasted for about an hour and a half.
The joy of many Ghanaians after power was restored was short lived when another blackout occurred just after 9:30pm. And it was not until after 1am (Thursday) that electricity supply to the whole of the country was restored.
Initially it was thought to be one of those intermittent cuts and was restricted to the capital alone but reports monitored by peacefmonline.com from many parts of the country especially from the Ashanti, Western, and Volta Regions indicated that it was a major power outage.
The cause of the blackout was not immediately known.
A similar outage hit the country on December 7 which lasted close to about four hours.
This is about the third time in many months that the country has experienced such major power outages.
A similar blackout, which occurred across the country last month, was said to have been caused by a mechanical fault on GRIDco's essential equipment.
Last week, a greater part of the capital was left in darkness for almost an hour following a breakdown in machines at the Volta River Authority.
