David Annan Affirms Govt's Decision To Boycott Multimedia

Lawyer David Annan has welcomed the decision by government to boycott all programmes by the Multimedia Group describing the move as long overdue. According to him the company has deliberately skewed its programmes to favour the opposition New Patriotic Party. Government earlier this week announced its decision to withdraw from all programmes run by the the company. Speaking to XYZ News, Mr. Annan emphasized that government can survive without the Multimedia group. You dont waste your efforts giving ammunition to your enemy. If you give a gun to your enemy to shoot you with, I dont think you can blame anyone if he does just that. He said Multimedias platform has been skewed towards an NPP agenda. According to him, Joy FM was set up by his father, Justice D.F. Annan and Ato Awhoi to counterweigh the state broadcaster. He said from all indications, the station has failed to live up to its mandate of fairness. Government has an obligation; so do the private press. If you are not fulfilling your side of the bargain, dont expect me to fulfill my side of the bargain. According to the counsel of embattled NDC financier, Alfred Woyome, even though the government is not going to prevent the companys journalists from attending its programmes, we are not going to stop them but we are not going to actively encourage them. We are not going to participate in their programmes and at governmental functions they will be ostracized. But the Executive Director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative Vitus Azeem says the decision is not in the interest of government. He believes for a government which wants to retain power in the upcoming elections, this was a bad call.
