Michael Helegbe Not To Play For Kotoko This Season

Michael Helegbe will not be able to feature for Asante Kotoko this season, documents available to GHANAsoccernet.com concludes. The 26-year-old has been deemed ineligible on technical grounds to play for the Premier League leaders since joining from Liberty Professionals in January. Kotoko have since tried in futility to have the former national-23 captain cleared to play for them and per documentations cited by GHANAsoccernet.com, there is no way Helegbe can feature for the Porcupine Warriors this season. Helegbe then a Liberty Professionals player traveled abroad for trials with an unnamed club. He returned after the deal fell through only to cancel his contract with Liberty in order to join Kotoko. This therefore makes it impossible for him to be registered under the special dispensation rule since he did not feature for any team oversees before joining the Kumasi-based club outside the transfer period. Kotoko officials nevertheless say they will continue to fight for the clearance of Helegbe despite admitting it looks extremely difficult. We are and will continue to argue our case with the Ghana FA to have Helegbe eligible to feature for us for official games, Kotoko spokesman Listowell Bukarson told GHANAsoccernet.com. It looks quite difficult but we will continue to pursue the case to have this talented chap play for Kotoko. The evidence however against Helegbe cited by GHANAsoccernet.com is compelling enough to conclude he will play no part in what now seems a triumphant league campaign for Kotoko with ten matches to go.
