World Forestry Day Observed With Tree Planting

Osabarima Agyare Tenadu ll, the Chief of Kade in the Eastern Region, planting a ceremonial tree as part of the First Forestry Commission Week celebration held in Takoradi. The day which was on the theme: �Forest, our hope, our future�, is aimed at highlighting the role of the Forestry Commission in ensuring the sustainable use of the forest and wildlife resources for the benefit of present and future generations of Ghana and the world at large. Addressing a durbar in Takoradi, Mr. Mike Hammah, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, in a speech read on his behalf, said the ministry through its agency, the Forestry Commission, was working closely with various investors to develop eco-tourism in Ghana. He said the government would take advantage of the potential market that would arise in the Cape Three Points area to develop the potential of the Ankasa National Park to improve the income generation potential of the forestry sub-sector with eth view to improving the livelihoods of the communities in the area.
