Tension In Yendi As Security Operatives Take Over Palace

Reports reaching peacefmonline say there is simmering tension in Yendi as the palace of BON-LANA, regent of the Abudu family in Dagbon has reportedly been besieged by personnel from the police and military. The security agencies are anticipating a possible clash as Abudus plan to enskin a ruler today, Sunday, March 25, 2012 in one of its traditional areas, hence the deployment of armed military and police personnel. The Abudu family has vowed to go ahead with the enskinment process despite the presence of the security personnel who have been purportedly sent there on the orders of the Northern Regional minister to prevent the Abudu family from going ahead with the ceremony. Speaking to XYZ News, the Youth Secretary to the Abudu family, Mohammed Chamsin, blamed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for looking on while the Andani family flouts the provisions of the road map to peace, which the two gates agreed to abide by. This morning around 6:00 oclock, the whole palace was besieged with armed men They went to the palace, met with the regent of the Abudu family and the leadership of Abudus. He accused the Mills-led administration of deliberately stalling the peace process in Dagbon, warning that we want to make it clear, whether hook or crook: today, we are going to en-skin that man and the Abudu family would resist any attempt by the government to stop our regent from en-skinning. Meanwhile, the ongoing nationwide biometric registration exercise has been halted in some centres in the Yendi municipality. Reports also say residents are currently living in fear of being attacked in case violence flares in the traditional area. This has even resulted in some traders abandoning their business.
