Uriah Asante Ready To Quit Football

Hearts of Oak midfielder Uriah Asante could quit football after facing persistent threats from the clubs fans following a facebook message. The 19-year-old was told he will be beaten up severely for sending a goodwill message to Kotoko coach Maxwell Konadu on the social networking site. Asante has publicly apologized for the comments but tempers have not calmed down. The influential midfielder says if the threats continue, he would quit football and focus on his education. I dont mind quitting football altogether if that is what will guarantee my safety and concentrate fully on my education, the Ghana youth international told the 90 minutes newspaper. I have discussed consequences of the threats with my family and I have resolved not to make any appearance at the training ground because my safety is not guaranteed. Asantes father Mettle Nunu, a dyed-in-the-wool Hearts of Oak fan, says his son must be forgiven. Asante didnt mean what he said. It was just a good will message because Maxwell Konadu coached him at the Black Meteors, he told Accra-based Oman FM. Im a big time Hearts of Oak fan myself so Im pleading with the fans.
