President John Evans Atta Mills left Accra for Abidjan this morning to the commercial Capital of Ivory Coast, Abidjan for the extra ordinary summit of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) to participate in the deliberation of the recent mutiny that ousted the Malian government and apply the desired and appropriate sanctions. The ECOWAS meeting is ongoing at the Hotel D�voir in Abidjan. The president was accompanied by the foreign affairs minister, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni and the information minister, Hon. Fritz Bafuor. In his opening remarks, the ECOWAS chairman and president of Ivory Coast Allasane Quattara described the coup d�tat an unconstitutional act, saying the Junta has automatically alienated and outlawed itself from the Community, and ECOWAS calls on it to immediately relinquish power to the rightful Government so that the country could return to constitutional normality. The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has strongly condemned and declared the coup in Mali as unacceptable and urged the country to return to democratic rule immediately. The ECOWAS says failure for Mali to heed to the call, would mean that country remain banned from ECOWAS, the leaders indicated. The usurpation of power from a democratically-elected Government, particularly just over a month before the nation is due to go to the polls to elect a new President.
