Akufo-Addo Will Send Rawlings To Hague

Whatever The Sun Fails To Reveal, They Say, Earth Will Throw Out In fact, it is in regard to the above Yuruba proverb that we write to caution all loyalists of former President Jerry John Rawlings to be careful in their dealings with members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), particularly, the Akyem caucus with Akufo-Addo as a leader, following some disturbing signals being picked up by the Informer so far. It has never been in doubt that some members of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), principally those sympathetic to the Rawlingses, for some strange reasons hold the view that the former First Family (Rawlingses), will be safe and better off under an Akufo-Addo-led NPP administration: But credible information available to The Informer as of press time yesterday reveals otherwise. In an exclusive telephone conservation with this paper, a soul mate of former President John Agyekum Kufuor (name withheld for fear of victimization) said, it will be an utmost mistake on the part of the NDC founder and his wife to think that they will be better protected under an Akufo-Addo regime and so must make the Atta Mills government unpopular to the advantage of the NPP. To buttress his point, he indicated further that, it has been Akufo-Addos strongest intention to pay back ex-President Rawlings in his own coin, since he holds the view that he (Rawlings), committed so much atrocity during the over nineteen (19) years that he ruled Ghana. My brother, Akufo-Addo as an Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, proposed that they send Rawlings to Hague to face charges of gross human rights abuse; but as somebody who believes in peace, Kufuor declines, the Kufuors buddy discloses. Determining to embarrass Rawlings and subject him to public ridicule, Nana Addo got former President Kufuor to buy into the idea of setting up a reconciliation commission, which was inaugurated on May 6th, 2002, since he was his Chief Legal Advisor, he added We all saw what happened at the National Reconciliation Commission (NRC) and the drama that took place when Rawlings appeared before it. Today, discerning minds still hold the view that the event and how some people were deliberately brought in, to testify against Rawlings so as to criminalized him has left this country more divided than the purpose it was set up to achieve; and that indeed was the handy works of Akufo-Addo, Mr. Kufuors confidant stated. As if that was not enough, Akufo Addo bent on destroying Rawlings decided to drag Nana Konadu to court and the proceedings at the time I know is as fresh as yesterday in our minds, yet some Rawlings feels he must help Akufo Addo to come to power, he queried. Then came the withdrawal of Rawlings privileges and courtesy as an ex-President of the Republic of Ghana, when Nana Addo became a Minister for Foreign Affairs under this same Kufuor regime. It will be a bother to Ghanaians to go into details since they are all aware of what became of Rawlings first foreign trip and the ugly incident he encountered when he arrived at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) and he thinks he will be better served under an Akufo-Addo presidency than the respect and all courtesies accorded him by the Mills administration or what?, the worried Kufuors boon companion stated. Rawlings, and for that matter his wife are playing with fire if they feel they will be protected under an Akufo-Addo presidency. In fact, they will be eroded completely as if an acid has been poured on them should Akufo-Addo get the nod to become president. So they better watch it and help President Mills to win his second term and continue with his Better Ghana Agenda. Akufo-Addo will surely send Rawlings to Hague in the unlikely event that he is voted president, like he wanted former President Kufuor to do, he further added. Even some of us in the NPP will not be comfortable under an Akufo-Addo presidency, how much more Rawlings and his wife: So they should think twice and give President Mills the peace of mind to prosecute his Better Ghana Agenda. I am, therefore, calling on all Rawlings loyalists to be wary of their association with those in the Nana Addo camp who think they should work against President Millss bid of getting his second term; which God has blessed, and no man can destroy, the Kufuors pal concludes. The Editors Note Although, we have been following current developments in the ruling NDC and the unwarranted attacks on President Mills and his appointees, our humble appeal is for cool heads to prevail; so that the NDC will clinch another victory, come 2012. To those who feel that they will be safe and well-off under an Akufo-Addo presidency, they must be deceiving themselves, when there is an enough evidence to show how he will rule in unfortunate event he becomes president of Ghana. A close confidant of former President Kufuor has spoken, those with ears should listen: But come what may, President Mills will surely get his second term.
