Mike Ocquaye Supports 3 Constituencies

THE MEMBER of Parliament (MP) for Dome-Kwabenya, Prof. Mike Ocquaye has donated sums of money and a motor bike to members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in three constituencies in the Greater Accra region. The donations to the three constituencies, Ada, Sege and Old Ningo, according to Prof. Ocquaye, were to facilitate the partys work as they prepare for the December 2012 general elections; an election he described as crucial. Before last Fridays donation, Prof Ocquaye had donated a motorbike to the Ada constituency during a tour of the area a couple of weeks ago. Presenting a motorbike to Al-Latif Tetteh Amanor, the Old Ningo Constituency chairman of the NPP, in the company of the constituency parliamentary candidate, Sylvester Tetteh, Prof. Ocquaye said that the donation formed part of his widows mite to them and urged them to go to every hamlet in the constituency to explain the policies the NPP would implement when voted for. Addressing the party members at the donation ceremony, he noted that it was important that they preached about the achievements of the party under former President Kufuor, adding that Ghanaians would witness better living conditions under a government led by Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP. Prof Ocquaye continued that the NPP, unlike the NDC, was committed to ensuring better living and working conditions for Ghanaians. Reiterating the NPP flagbearers commitment to providing free senior high school education for all, Prof Ocquaye noted a government under the NPP would make education one of its priorities. He explained that the NPP would make important investment into the educational sector. This I can assure you when carried out will go a long way to ensure that the future of this country is properly structured, he stated. He disagreed with those who claim the free education for all was not achievable by explaining that Nana Akufo-Addo, unlike President Mills, would not preside over a corrupted government. He mentioned the recent revelation of massive corruption by ace journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas at the Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority (GPHA). The MP told the gathering that President Mills has failed to implement a single policy that would bring corruption to an end at the GPHA and save the country some money Prof. Ocquaye said he was aware of the challenges they were confronted with in their day to day activities in moving about and selling the policies of the NPP to other members of their constituencies, stating that the donation was to help them do that without hindrance. He regretted that the prices of outboard motors and premix fuel under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had increased drastically, which according to him, had affected a lot of them since they were located within fishing communities. He quickly added that the NPP would bring back the fisheries ministry which has been dissolved by the NDC. The bringing back of the fisheries ministry, according to him, would ensure that problems associated with their profession are dealt with. Prof Ocquaye urged them to go out in their numbers to register, adding that they should encourage residents who have turned 18 years but have not registered to do so. He noted that the period of deception by some politicians was over. He denied rumours making the rounds that persons who have their photographs taken could be infected with some diseases; he said they were lies to discourage them from turning up to register. He continued that the surest way of ensuring victory for the NPP in the upcoming election was for them to be united and work hard. He hoped that his donation would help them in working hard to restore the hope and confidence of Ghanaians. Appealing for votes for the NPP presidential candidate and the various parliamentary candidates, Prof Ocquaye stressed that it was obvious that the NDC, under the leadership of President Mills, had failed Ghanaians and that they did not deserve a second chance. Earlier, Prof Ocquaye interacted with the parliamentary candidate of the Ada constituency, Madam Atsupe Gorleki Quarshie and other party constituency executives and donated an amount of money to them. He also did a similar donation to the parliamentary candidate for Sege, Divine Otoo Agorhom and party executives at a short ceremony. He later toured some polling stations in all the three constituencies he visited where he briefly interacted with officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) currently undertaking the biometric registration exercise. Prof Mike Ocquaye was accompanied by Gladys Mann-Dedey, first vice chair for the Greater Accra region and Joyce Zempare, the Regional Womens Organizer.
