Ghana Captain John Mensah Rubbishes Salary Claims

Ghana captain John Mensah has rubbished claims that French Lyon stop paying the wages due to his inactivity. French newspaper Le Progres reported this week that the strong defender has been hit in the pocket following his spate of injuries. This means he has been unable to play many matches for his club in the French top-flight which has blighted his career this season. But the Ghana captain has rejected the report insisting that Lyon still pay his wages. It is not true that my salary has been frozen, I have received my salary in full since I rejoined the team from the Nations Cup break, Mensah said on his official website. If there is something like that in the newspapers, I can say its absolute false, I was surprised when a close relation told me of the development on phone. In fact, I have the bank statement of my salary for this month as we speak. The players agent Fabian Pivateau also added his voice by insisting that Lyon would be in breach of Mensahs contract if they stop paying his salary. Its never true that Mensahs salary has been frozen. Even his contract does not permit that, it states that whether he plays or not, his club has no right to temper with his salary, Pivateau said. The centre-back has managed only one appearance for the side this term due to the injuries he suffered while playing for Ghana at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. Despite these injuries he was named among the best players in the tournament making history by scoring two goals for the country at the competition in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. Mensah returned to Lyon after a two-year loan deal at English side Sunderland and the outlandish decision is likely to push him out of the club. He signed a five-year deal with the club worth 8.4 million in 2008 and has a year left on his current contract.
