Woyome Saga: Contempt Case Against Peace FM, Multimedia And 5 NPP Officials Adjourned

The contempt case brought against the Chief Executive Officer of PeaceFM, Osei Kwame Despite, the Peacefmonline Editor, Nana Kwadwo Asante, the CEO of MultiMedia Group Limited, Kwesi Twum and seven others in connection with the GH51 million judgement debt paid to businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome, has been adjourned until May 2. The other respondents are Hon Kennedy Agyapong, the NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin North; Hon Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the Minority Leader in Parliament and MP for Suame; Nana Akomea, the MP for Okaikoi South and Director of Communications of the NPP; Mr Samuel Awuku, a Deputy Director of Communications, and Mr Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, the National Chairman of the NPP. Also joined in the suit are Mr Rockson Adofo and Mr Kofi Akosah Sarpong for writing contemptuous articles about the case in which Woyome is standing trial for the payment of GH51.2 million judgement debt to him. The applicant, David Annan is asking the court to commit the five NPP officials for willfully and gleefully interfering with the administration of justice and scandalizing the court in the case involving his client. According to him the respondents had, over a long period of time, made constant pernicious statements and pronounced the accused and defendant in the criminal and civil matters which were pending before the court as a criminal, a thief, corrupt and fraudulent. At today's sitting, Lawyer Annan prayed the circuit court judge to have a bench warrant issued for the arrest of some of the respondents (Kwadwo Asante and Osei Kwame Despite), but when it became clear that they were served late and other respondents not served with their writs at all, the CEO of PeaceFM especially, court adjourned the case to the 2nd May, by which time their respective counsels would have had time to study the writ and file an appropriate defence.
