The 25-year-old Okaikoi North constituency ward secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) who was murdered last Sunday night has been buried in line with Islamic custom at the Awudome Cemetery.
Sheriff Mohammed�s murder has attracted public condemnation especially given the fact that it was politically motivated.
An earlier suggestion that it was an armed robbery could not fly when the facts began emerging.
A delegation of the leadership of the NPP led by Fred Oware yesterday called on the bereaved family at its Fadama residence to sympathize with them.
Supporting Mr. Oware was Otiko Djaba, National Women�s Organizer, Alhaji Abubakar Suleimana, Nasara Coordinator, Joe Appiah, MP for Ablekuma North and Kate Gyamfuah among others. The delegation consoled the deceased ward secretary�s mother with the words that the Almighty God gives and takes. It also promised to do all that is required of the party in these difficult times.
The mother of the deceased told the delegation that on that fateful night, her son had gone to buy a beverage when some persons hiding nearby alerted another group that he was coming.
They pounced upon him and began asking him some questions she said adding that they claimed he was proving stubborn and demanded that he hand over his mobile phone to them. Refusing to do so they got angry; one of them cut his hand and then stabbed him close to his neck, she said.
A man who saw the suspects soon after the deed said he did not know at the time that they had committed a murder.
When he spoke on Oman Fm yesterday morning on the issue, the NPP Parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Patrick Boamah pointed out that the deceased�s father stopped a busload of female head porters known as kayayei from Agbogbloshie from registering in the constituency.
This did not go down well with organizers of the arrangement and one of them told him that he would see.
The billboard of the candidate was destroyed earlier and a reporter of the Daily Searchlight who recorded the anomaly was assaulted by those engaged in the action.
No suspect has been nabbed yet although investigations are said to be on even as efforts are being made to calm tempers. The night market segment of this area is known for many violent actions.
