Kofi Wayo Blames Ursulas Attack On EC

Founder and Leader of the United Renaissance Party (URP), Chuck Kofi Wayo is blaming the Electoral Commission (EC) for the unwarranted attack on the New Patriotic Party (NPPs) parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma South, Ursula Owusu. Mr Wayo believes had the EC streamlined its rules by preventing politicians from going anywhere near registration centers, the scenes of violence recorded at some centres could have been prevented. He further adds that had the EC done a good job of educating the electorate on their civic responsibilities, the lot would not have fallen on Ursula Owusu to even go and ask anybody to register. The aspiring NPP parliamentary was subjected to severe physical assault by some heavily built men at Tarzan, a registration centre in the Odododiodoo Constituency on Wednesday April 12, 2012. Ursula, who was in the company of Abu Jinapor, an aide to Nana Akufo-Addo, the NPPs flagbearer, was whipping up the interest of some traders in the area to partake in the national exercise. Speaking in an interview on Radio Gold, the maverick politician deplored the attack on the NPP parliamentary candidate saying there can be no justification whatsoever for an attack on a woman by any man, and urged the police to get to the bottom of the issue by arresting the culprits. If you slap somebody, it is an offence the police needs to arrest anybody who violates the law I condemn it in the highest ordera man who will even hit a woman is not a man; you dont go hitting women. If you are a human being, and you have God in you, the first thing you think about is your mother and so you dont go hitting themThe EC is not doing what they are supposed to do. Why do political parties have to urge people to go and register? We shouldnt allow that. Registration is a civic rightso Afari Gyan should have made a law that political parties should not go near the registration venues because the registration is not for NDC or NPP; is for the people of Ghana, Kofi Wayo added.
