Former Ghana Sports Minister Enoch Teye Mensah has lauded the decision of the Ghana Federation to hand the Black Stars job to a local man. The Ghana Federation appointed long-standing assistant coach Kwesi Appiah on a permanent basis following weeks of headhunting for Goran Stevanovic�s successor. He has been tasked with the responsibility of winning next year�s African Cup of Nations in South Africa and also to earn a semi-final berth at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. His appointment has been hailed by many as it ended the country�s six-year wait for a local man to be given the top job and Enoch Teye Mensah who is currently the country�s minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing says the FA made the right choice. He told Accra-based Radio XYZ: �I have been an apostle of having a local coach. I have said it again and again. The truth is that you cannot get first class coaches for our national teams because we cannot pay the fees that they charge,� �The salaries and the allowances we�re unable to pay. When you check all our achievements, we achieved with local coaches. �When I was around, they respected whoever was the coach. Let offer leadership. Let people know that this is what we have. Do we have a white man as the head of the Bank of Ghana? �A black person, our own person, brother, friend, uncle was able to lead the UN and so we have the capacity at every level,� The 51-year-old will be unveiled on Tuesday.
