Chaos As Irate Fans Of Ken Agyapong Clash With Police In-Front Of GBC

Supporters of the NPP and the police, on Monday night, engaged in a brawl in-front of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation. The supporters were peeved over the arrest and detention of the Assin North MP Kennedy Agyapong. The outspoken New Patriotic Party MP was whisked to the regional office of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) in Accra, where he is expected to be detained overnight. Earlier on Monday, the NPP MP reported to the Police CID headquarters upon an invitation where he was interrogated on some alleged inciting comments he made last week on his radio station Oman FM. XYZ News� Kwame Danso Acheampong and Farouk Atipaga who were on the scene reported that parts of the road around the Ako Adjei interchange (Sankara) have been partially destroyed as a result of the clashes between the supporters and the police. Hundreds of irate fans blocked the road in-front of the state broadcaster and burnt car tyres to protest their displeasure over Mr. Agyapong's arrest. A deputy Communication Director of the party, Sammy Awuku who was at the scene during the chaos, told Peace FM that the police were using tear gas to disperse the angry mob. He accused President Mills of masterminding the "bloodshed" against members of his party. Samuel Awuku said the continuous detention of Kennedy Agyapong is unfair and that "President Mils would have to account for the loss of blood." Sammy Awuku also alleged that the police injured a female colleague whose name he gave as Oliver. According to him, Oliver is currently at the intensive care unit of the Police Hospital. Another deputy Communication Director of the party, Yaw Boabeng Asamoah is said to have been arrested by the Police.
