Stop Politicising The Police Service Kpesah Whyte

A lecturer at the Institute of African Studies, Dr. Michael Kpesah Whyte, has lashed out at the two leading political parties NDC and NPP - for calling for the resignation or dismissal of some security officers, especially the police saying the calls are unnecessary. The Ghana Police Service has been accused by both parties of unfair treatment. While the NPP is calling for the resignation of the Inspector General of Police, the ruling NDC has asked for the interdiction of the head of the MTTU, ACP Awuni. Dr. Whyte told Citi News in an interview that the conduct of the political parties must be resisted. He said: The police, actually using their own intelligence, came out to say that they have picked up signals that political parties in the country have and are trying to foment some trouble and politicize them by blaming them (police) in one or the other for some issues so as to undermine the credibility of the upcoming elections. I think the calls coming from the different political parties, especially on the police service seems to give credence to some of these things that the police officers have notified the nation about and I think its about time civil society groups rise up to tell the political parties that they should desist from politicising the police service, allow the police officers to perform their duties. Dr. Whyte added: Wherever they think the police officers have out stepped their bounds, they should go to the law courts to seek redress.
