Can Frances Essiam Snatch The Adenta Seat From The NDC?

In 2004, the Electoral Commission (EC), in exercise of its constitutional mandate, decided to increase the number of constituencies from 200 to 230. In Greater Accra, the Ashiaman constituency was split into two-one was still named Ashaiman and the other, Adenta. The four electoral areas in Adenta are Nii Ashalley Koose; Gbentanaa and Sutsurunaa. As at 2008, it had an estimated population of 150,000 and the number of registered voters was 60,859. The December 7, 2012 particularly elections will be between two first timers. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will be represented by Mr. Archie Moore, who defeated the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Mr. Kojo Adu-Asare at the partys primaries. Ms. Frances Essiam will be representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP). As we head towards the 2012 parliamentary elections, who is likely to win? Over the last two elections, in 2004, the NPPs Opare Hammond beat Kabu Davies of the NDC by 944 votes. In the 2004 presidential, Kufuor lost out to Mills by 166 votes. In 2008, Adu Asare of the NDC won by 3,456 votes, beating the incumbent MP, Opare Hammond. Mills won the presidential, rather comfortably, beating Nana Akufo Addo by 3,211 votes. There are indications both the NDC and NPP are sharply divided in Adenta that independent parliamentary candidates could pop up. Until the ECs deadline for filing of nominations papers, one cannot be sure of which political party will have more of its activists being independent candidates. We will conclude our opinion polls after the nominations have been filed. However, as at March 20, 2012, according to our polls, as many as 23% of voters in Adenta were undecided as who to vote for in Adenta.
