Three pregnant girls are among the Junior High School candidates writing this year�s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis in the Western Region. The three girls are among the 1, 374 candidates who are writing the examinations at the three centres created at the Takoradi Senior High School. In all, 7,079 candidates are sitting for the examination at 18 centres across the metropolis, out of which 5,417 students are from the public schools and 1,663 from private schools. Kofi Imbeah, Metropolitan Director of Education, who went round some of the examination centres within the area, disclosed these in an interview with DAILY GUIDE and stressed that none of the pregnant girls stayed away. Some of the centres the metropolitan director of education visited included Bethel Methodist Junior High School, Naval Base Junior High School in Takoradi, Takoradi Senior High School, Bompeh Senior High, Archbishop Porter Senior High School and Ghana Secondary Technical School. He stressed that the overall attendance of candidates was satisfactory, adding, �The question papers and other logistics were delivered on time and there was adequate supervision at all the examination centres.� He said the examination was going on smoothly at all the centres he visited, and wished the candidates well. He was optimistic that the candidates would perform better this year as compared to last year, considering the time and energy put into preparing the candidates by the various schools in the region. Some students at the centres visited told DAILY GUIDE they had prepared enough for the examinations and were hopeful that they would come out with flying colours. �I can confidently say that I am 100 percent prepared for this year�s BECE because I have burnt the midnight candle and learnt very hard for the exams,� one candidate said.
