�NDC To Provide Free SHS�

The Vice President, John Dramani Mahama, has reiterated the government�s commitment to make Senior High School education accessible to all Ghanaian children adding that the government is already committed to the construction of 200 community Senior High Schools in some selected areas. Addressing a cross section of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) of the NDC, in the Ashanti region recently, he pointed out that the project when completed would cost $250 million and would be spread across the length and breadth of the country. According to the Vice President, the designs and drawings are in the advanced stages and actual construction work would soon begin stressing that the proposed community SHS would include ultra modern science and computer laboratories. His Excellency John Mahama, assured Ghanaians that the government would not make outrageous promises for the sake of votes. The Vice President in an attempt to clarify the government�s position on the contentious issue of free education, said the NDC is interested in increasing access to Senior High School education and not free secondary education, this notwithstanding, the government is commitment to give the Free Compulsory and Universal Basic Education its true meaning.
