Why Are People So Desperate To Win Power? Badu Akosa Asks

A leading member of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Professor Agyemang Badu Akosa, says he is optimistic the CPP will cause a major political upset in the December polls. According to the former Director General of the Ghana Health Service, the CPP is the only political tradition that can salvage Ghanaians from what he described as the harsh economic conditions. Speaking to XYZ NEWS at a ceremony to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the death of Dr Kwame Nkrumah on Friday, Prof. Akosa said he believes the December polls will be peaceful in spite of the acrimony that has characterized the biometric registration exercise. I believe that the biometric registration, no matter the hoohaa, will come to an end. I believe on the 7th of December there will be elections. I believe Afari-Gyan, the electoral Commissioner, will declare the winner and Ghana will move forward. He expressed dismay at the patches of trouble that have engulfed the registration so far, saying: Why are people so desperate? why are people so desperate to come and rule this country? Touching on why he is not running for the position of flagbearer of the party, Prof. Akossah said: mine is not part of the equation Afterall one puts himself up for leadership. I believe in the CPP agenda, I believe that, that is where the visionary leadership will come from; the selfless devoted leadership will come from and I know that it will happen in my lifetime. He said two presidential aspirants of the party, Dr. Abu Sakara and Lawyer Bright Akwettey, who put themselves up for the position will be elected on the 12th of May. He said Ghana has had enough of the two main political parties: NDC and the NPP, stressing that it is time for a change. We have had them over and over and over again and the people of this country are poorer for that kind of leadership.
