IGPs Statement Mere RhetoricHe Should Walk The Talk

National Youth Organiser of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan, believes the recent statement by the Inspector General of Police, Paul Tawiah Quaye, to deal ruthlessly with troublemakers is mere rhetoric and has called on him to walk the talk. The IGP, at a press conference last week, warned that the police will not treat anyone beating war drums in the country with kids gloves, since they are bent on jealously guarding the prevailing peace. Mincing no words, he added that his outfit is poised to religiously protect the peace in the country and warned that no one should overstretch their patience. The police are poised to deal decisively with anyone who wants to disturb the peace in Ghana before, during and after elections. I urge all Ghanaians to respect and use existing police structures in addressing all grievances. Well not discriminate or be bias towards any political groupings, Paul Tawiah Quaye warned. Speaking as a panelist on Peace FMs morning show Kokrokoo, the PNC National Youth Organiser said such pronouncements by the IGP are not entirely new, pointing out that if truly he (IGP) is serious and is bent on curbing the violent scenes recorded at some biometric registration centres and even during the upcoming elections, we would have seen evidence of it. I dont know why the IGP waited till this time before making such pronouncements I see his recent remarks as rhetoric againWhen you are fighting crime, at a certain point, you overlook procedure to ensure disciplineThis is not the first time the IGP has spoken and so I will tell him that in fact I will plead with him to move from rhetoric and act for everyone to seeI think the IGP should prove to us that truly he is committed. A lot of things have happened as far as violence at various registration centres is concernedlets strengthen forces on the ground to instill that discipline; regardless of party colour as he has already stated, let us see him taking action, Abu Ramadan noted.
