Police Denies 20 AK- 47 Arrest Report

The Police Administration has officially denied media reports that the Northern Regional Police Command impounded 20 AK-47 assault rifles in Yendi at a security check point last week. Head of Police Public Affairs, DSP Cephas Arthur reacted to the report in an interview with The New Crusading GUIDE, saying there was no such interception of large quantities of AK-47 rifles by the Police. My information as far the Northern Regional Police Commander is concerned, yes there was an interception of arms, but it was only one AK-47 and not 100 rifles as reported by some sections of the media, DSP Cephas Arthur explained. The Northern Regional Police Commander DCOP Tuffour, stressed that In fact there was no round of ammunition in the magazine, and that the situation was controlled and therefore people should not be alarmed by the report. DSP Arthur further refuted another claim that there was a similar arrest at Yendi, a day after the Police had intercepted the AK-47, saying there was no briefing from the Northern Police Command of such arrest. Readers would recall that this paper reported on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, that the Police had impounded 20 AK-47 rifles at Yendi on Tuesday 24, 2012. In the same story, it was reported that another person was arrested by the Police the following day on a similar charge.
