THE LEADERSHIP of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the US has disclosed its readiness to protect the sovereign will of Ghanaians in the forthcoming general elections. Consequently, it has announced that more than 1,000 volunteers will be deployed into the country ahead of the elections to monitor proceedings warning that any acts of intimidation by members of the current government will be recorded and presented to the international community. �We will resource these observers with cameras and other recordable devices to capture and show to the international community plans by the ruling party to rob the citizenry of their democratic rights,� it noted. Chairman of NPP-USA, Nana Agyei Yeboah who disclosed this to DAILY GUIDE after leading a 15-man delegation to Tamale, noted the December polls was significant for the development of the country. He therefore urged members of the party in the region who had attained the age of 18 to register in order to vote in December as the election was a major determinant of their destiny. According to him, the NPP snatching power from the current government was also significant to the country�s development observing the votes of all and sundry could play a pivotal role in this regard. The NPP leader noted that with the one-man-one-vote policy which the biometric registration exercise stands to achieve, the NPP is optimistic of beating its archrivals the NDC in the December polls urging the electorate not to allow acts of intimidation to cow them into not voting. He told DAILY GUIDE that an interaction with the leadership of the NPP in the region unveiled several issues indicating that plans were far advanced to have some of them resolved to get the party on a sound footing. �This is the first of our many visits to the region and we hope to make more of such trips to cement the relationship between NPP-USA and NPP-Northern Region,� he disclosed. On behalf of the US branch he made some donations including an undisclosed cash amount to the regional hierarchy of the party and promised more in subsequent visits. Other members on the trip were former NPP Chairman for North America, Mohammed Ali Idris and Eugene Kyeremanten, NPP-CT Chairman. On his part Alhaji Sulemana Tia, Northern Regional NPP Chairman commended them for the gesture and promised the items donated will be used for their intended purpose. John Jabaah Bennam, Member of Parliament (MP) for Zabzugu/Tatale who led the team from Accra expressed hope that the fruitful deliberations both parties had would yield the needed dividends during the polls. He however appealed to regional and constituency executives to also brace themselves up for a stiff challenge in view of current tactics being employed by the NPP�s political opponents to win the 2012 polls by hook or crook. The MP was full of praise for NPP-USA and urged them not to relent in their efforts in supporting the region in terms of logistics and other items since it has the potential of unseating the majority of incumbent MPs to power the party to victory. The team was earlier conducted round a number of polling stations in the final phase of the biometric registration exercise where they interacted with electoral officials and polling agents.
