I Thought Bawumia Was Bringing Some Political Freshness...He Was Intellectually Dishonest

A leading member of the government's communication team says he is somewhat disappointed that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, vice-presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has failed to bring some breath of freshness so far to the political landscape as expected and is rather indulging in the same old "bad-politics". Dr. Omane Boamah, claims there was some level of "intellectual dishonesty" with regards to the "State of the Economy" lecture delivered by Dr Bawumia on Wednesday evening. The NPP Vice-Presidential candidate, at the 5th Ferdinard Ayim Memorial Lectures in Accra, outlined the various economic opportunities which according to him, have placed the current administration in favourable stead to improve the conditions of the ordinary Ghanaian. The Economist guru, among other issues, argued that although inflation could be a measurement issue, the established relationships between inflation and key economic variables appeared to have gone missing for now. But Dr Omane Boamah, who is also a Deputy Minister for Science and Technology, expressed worry at Dr. Bawumia's analysis saying "i thought he would bring something different to the political arena and not add to the bad politics" that is already on-going in the country. Contributing to discussions on Metro TVs Good Morning Ghana show, he said: he (Bawumia) missed an opportunity to demonstrate what he brings to the NPP ticket in terms of solving the significant issues confronting Ghanaians, particularly the youth. This is because much as he was dealing with the state of the economy, he himself made incursions into the way forward and all thathe was very, very thin and lean in terms of the way forward and the quality of things that he put out thereI was quite worried because when people like him step into politics, you would expect that they should bring some freshness but when such people also engage in the same old bad politics, it doesnt help. In one breath he accepts the figures by the Statistical service and in another breath, he takes a long route to argue why he is opposed to the relationship between the single digit inflation that is being churned out by the same statistical service I think that there again, he engaged in some level of intellectual dishonesty...," the deputy minister said.
