Ghana Fa Boss Defends Black Stars Technical Team Shake-up

Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi has defended recent chances to the national team technical set-up claiming the new faces are competent. Kwesi Appiah was named head coach last month and Kotoko coach Maxwell Konadu appointed as his assistant. The Ghana FA reshuffled the backroom staff with new faces joining the team. There have been concerns that the changes might wreck Ghanas campaign to qualify for the 2013 Nations Cup and the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil. But Nyantakyi has repelled all that a vouched for the credentials of the new appointments made. All the new members have demonstrated competence over the years and so they deserve to be there, Nyantakyi said. Kwasi Appiah has progressed since becoming Black Stars assistant coach in 2008. He has been to three tournaments and done well. He has won gold with the Black Meteors and so he deserves to head the Black Stars technical team. Konadu has achieved so much since he started out at Red Bull Academy and his exploits are there for all to see. Dr Baba is an experienced orthopaedic surgeon and he has been with the Black Meteors for a long time so he is capable of doing the job very well. Sabahn Quaye has paid his dues as team manager for Hearts of Oak, Liberty Professionals and the Black Meteors. So it is not a matter of trial and error. All members are competent and their competence cannot be questioned. Nyantakyi has no shred of doubt that the competency levels of members of the Black Stars technical team will bring positive results. With the quality of personnel in the Black Stars technical team, we all have to give them the necessary support and I have no doubt that they will go far. The first assignment for the new technical committee will be against Lesotho at the Baba Yara Stadium on 1 June.
